‘Daraar,’ directed by Ashim Sen, explores the interpersonal problems that arose during the national lockdown due to the pandemic. The talented duo of Girija Oak and Alpesh Dixit star in the 11-minute short film. The storey depicts the unfortunate reality of many Indian households, illustrating how emotions, responsibilities, and equations, when taken for granted, can lead to relationship breakdown.
“The lockdown left people with no option but to stay at home and therefore spend more time with their spouses,” director Ashim Sen says. As a result, their differences grew, and their marriage became more unstable. During the first step of lockdown, I learned of many pandemic-related break-ups and separations and felt compelled to introduce truth to the computer. My film ‘Daraar’ ends with an open-ended ending, allowing all viewers to develop their own unique perspectives on this slice of life after watching it.
“I’m humbled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding actors such as Girija and Alpesh,” he continues. We only did two readings with them prior to shooting, but their talent shone through in every frame. Looking at their chemistry, it’s impossible to say they’re working together for the first time.”
